Since the release of Consolidated Simpl-Live wave-1 Studies report, where Simpl-Open integration approach have been build on the needs identified at that moment,  LDS, SCDS, DestinE, EOSC, PPDS, and EHDS2 have continued to evolve independently, as have the ecosystem, governance bodies, policy priorities, funding initiatives, frameworks, and rules

Simpl-Live wave-1 feasibility studies overall conclusion

Simpl-Open can be integrated by a data initiative in two envisioned integration scenarios.

Each scenario fits a different level of maturity of the data initiative:

Simpl-Open as an enabler of a data initiative's fundamental processes (governance, security, interoperability), best suited to less mature initiatives without existing structures, for example the Smart Communities Data Space.

Simpl-Open as a gateway connecting already operational data initiatives across sectors, best suited to more mature initiatives with existing structures, for example the Public Procurement Data Space, Destination Earth and the European Open Science Cloud.

The Language Data Space and the European Health Data Space for secondary health data use are examples that lie between these two ends of the spectrum.

Phase 2 Implementation - Ongoing

Starting in 2026, workshops have taken place to further refine integration scenarios, align technical and operational requirements, and support the next steps towards Simpl-Open adoption. 

These exchanges mark the beginning of the integration activities and will help ensure that the implementation approach reflects the evolving priorities and maturity of each participating initiative.

The Simpl-Live wave-1 data spaces and initiatives are assessing how Simpl-Open Functional Requirements (Business Processes) can address their specific business needs. • Revision: Update integration scenarios and requirement list from the feasibility studies to align with the current maturity of the data spaces and initiatives.

• Technical validation: Validate technical integration, develop and test key functionalities, address core challenges and define the final solution.

• Acceptance: Deliver fully implemented business processes, with confirmed functional behaviour, consistent user experience, and design fit, demonstrating readiness for operational use.

• Operational deployment: Deliver a stable, secure, and optimised implementation supporting actual business operations.

• Maintenance: Monitor operational stability and improvement of Simpl Live components while equipping the data space technical teams for independent management.
