Simpl-Labs is a dedicated environment for testing and experimenting with Simpl-Open, tailored to meet the needs of both public and private data initiatives. The platform facilitates exploration and adoption, while also enhancing compatibility and interoperability across diverse projects and initiatives. At its core, Simpl-Labs serves two key purposes:

Playground environment for data space prototyping

Users can create and manage test data spaces powered by Simpl-Open, using guided wizards and reusable templates. This allows for rapid experimentation, onboarding, and learning, which is ideal for early-stage or prospective data initiatives.

Interoperability testbed

Users can deploy custom software components and run conformance tests to ensure compatibility with Simpl-Open. This is crucial for established data spaces aiming to integrate or align with the Simpl ecosystem.

The platform supports a wide range of use cases, from prototyping data spaces from scratch to validating new components and monitoring resource usage. It also provides access to a conformance testing dashboard, leveraging the European Commission’s Interoperability Test Bed (ITB) services.

Simpl-Labs today

With the completion of its feasibility study, Simpl-Labs has reached a significant milestone. The study delivered four key outcomes: a clear set of functional and non-functional requirements for Simpl-Labs testing environment, a defined architecture, a working Proof of Concept, and a comprehensive feasibility report. These results lay the foundation for the next phase: execution and implementation, which began in Q1 2026.
