To be able to compete in this new global market, the EU must be able to fuel AI with high-quality data. As stated in the Data Union Strategy , this need for high-quality data in Europe aligns with the aim of exploiting the untapped potential of data and completing the Single Market for data. 

To do so, it is necessary to scale up access to quality data for AI and innovation, including scaling up the common European data spaces (CEDS).

Simpl’s mission is to enable the creation of data chains across industries by providing a common, open-source software solution that meets the essential needs of data sharing initiatives, while addressing key challenges such as security, data sovereignty and data quality.

Simpl overview 
 

Simpl delivers its value proposition through three products: Simpl-Open, Simpl-Labs and Simpl-Live.

Simpl-Open is the open-source middleware solution itself. Data initiatives can use its modular components to build their own data sharing solutions, or they can use Simpl-Open as a base to create their own unique custom components. It is “Open” because anyone can use, modify, and contribute to its development.

Organisations get to experiment with Simpl-Open through Simpl-Labs. This is the sandbox environment where data initiatives can prototype their data space, exploring how the components fit their needs before committing to a full build.

Simpl provides additional support to selected European data spaces for the implementation of Simpl-Open through Simpl-Live. The process begins with a Feasibility Study, which produces a tailored roadmap for implementation. Then, Simpl-Live provides hands-on support to follow the roadmap, and guide the successful integration and deployment of Simpl-Open into the live data space.

Open-source: At the core of Simpl’s long-term strategy 

Simpl-Open is built to belong to the European data sharing community. It is being developed on open-source principles, integrating proven solutions from the community wherever possible to ensure it can grow and adapt to future needs.

While the initial development is guided by the European Commission, its long-term success and evolution will be driven by the community that uses, contributes to, and helps shape its future.

Simpl will become the common software behind common European data spaces. By contributing early on, organisations will ensure that Simpl evolves to fit their specific needs, and will get ahead of the curve in Simpl technical knowledge.
