Simpl-Live
Discover how Simpl-Live supports Simpl-Open implementation within European data initiatives.
Simpl-Live focusses on deploying and integrating Simpl-Open into real-world, sector-specific data initiatives across Europe. It transforms the potential of Simpl-Open into operational value by working directly with data initiatives to define integration scenarios, assess feasibility, and guide implementation. At its core, Simpl-Live delivers three key results:

Support Implementation
Through feasibility studies, Simpl-Live helps selected data initiatives evaluate how Simpl-Open can meet their specific needs and requirements.

Define Integration Roadmaps
For each selected data initiative, Simpl-Live defines tailored integration scenarios and roadmaps, ensuring a smooth and strategic deployment of Simpl-Open.

Inform Simpl-Open development
By working closely with data initiatives, Simpl-Live gathers common requirements and insights to be considered for Simpl-Open development.
Partner data spaces and initiatives
In 2024, Simpl-Live completed feasibility studies with six data initiatives, Public Procurement Data Space (PPDS)
, European Health Data Space for Secondary Use of Health Data (EHDS2)
, Language Data Space (LDS)
, European Open Science Cloud (EOSC)
, Destination Earth (DestinE)
, and Smart Communities Data Space (SCDS)
, spanning domains such as public procurement, health, science, and smart communities. These studies explored how Simpl-Open could be integrated into these initiatives to support both internal operations and cross-sector interoperability.
In 2025, Simpl-Live feasibility studies are expanding with five additional initiatives: Common European Energy Data Space (CEEDS)
, Common European Agricultural Data Space (CEADS)
, European Mobility Data Space (deployEMDS)
, Green Deal Data Space (GDDS)
, along with the EuroCloud initiative.
The next phase, the integration of Simpl-Open into the data spaces and initiatives assessed in 2024, began in Q1 2026, marking a major step towards operationalising Simpl across Europe’s data spaces ecosystem.
Implementation Scenarios of Simpl-Open
Currently, there are two envisioned implementation scenarios identified by Simpl-Live for Simpl-Open:
Simpl-Open to enable data space fundamental processes
In this scenario, Simpl-Open acts as an enabler of key fundamental processes that allow a data initiative to connect to a single source and facilitate collaborations across and between data spaces, initiatives, and sectors. Simpl provides building blocks, including standards and frameworks, to enable essential internal business processes such as governance and auditability, security and compliance, data ingestion and transformation, interoperability, metadata management and discovery, and personal data handling.
This scenario is most relevant to data initiatives with a low level of maturity that do not yet have, for example, an existing governance authority or onboarding processes. An example of a data space that would fit this implementation scenario is the Smart Communities Data Space
.
Simpl-Open as a gateway to other data spaces and initiatives
In this scenario, Simpl-Open serves as a gateway that allows a data initiative to connect to a single source and facilitates collaborations across and between data spaces, initiatives, and sectors. Simpl focuses on enabling interoperability, cross-sector collaboration, and compliance and security within and between the different data spaces.
This scenario is most relevant to data initiatives which have reached a higher level of maturity, meaning that are already operational and have existing structures and procedures in place. Examples of data initiatives that would fit this implementation scenario are the Public Procurement Data Space
, Destination Earth
, and the European Open Science Cloud
.
It is important to note that these two implementation scenarios can be viewed as two ends of a spectrum, from less mature to fully mature data initiatives, and that several data initiatives fall in the middle of this range. The Language Data Space and the European Health Data Space for secondary health data use are examples that lie between these two ends of the spectrum.
