As European data spaces increasingly adopt artificial intelligence, demand is growing for compute-intensive workloads, scalable services and reusable components. This growth is exposing gaps in computing capacity, service discoverability and long-term sustainability. To tackle these challenges, Simpl is expanding Simpl-Open with new features focusing on several key areas:

  • AI and Machine Learning capabilities and connection with the EFP: Simpl-Open will be extended with ready-to-use AI and ML services based on open-source models. These will cover use cases such as generative AI and large language models, computer vision, anomaly detection, and automated data extraction and analysis. Simpl’s Machine Learning Platform-as-a-Service will also be enhanced to support standardised workload specifications, making AI services easier to reuse across data spaces. The features will support large-scale AI workloads in data spaces by leveraging federated compute resources made available by EuroHPC Federation Platform (EFP) in HPC centres and AI factories.
  • Connecting Simpl-Open with the DOME marketplace ecosystem: Simpl-Open will integrate with the DOME Marketplace ecosystem with the aim of improving service discovery and reuse. This will allow Simpl-powered data spaces to publish AI services developed within Simpl-Open to be published in the marketplace and consume trustworthy services through DOME Marketplace catalogue.
  • Supporting sustainable data space governance: Simpl will also enable approaches to support the long-term sustainability of Simpl-Open governance, including monetisation mechanisms that recognise and support the role of Governing Authority and operational actors.

First activities already underway

Work has already started a preparatory analysis to identify existing open-source components for AI and ML services which could be reused in Simpl-Open and analysing their relevant integration approaches.
