Simpl from a technical perspective

Laura Camargo
Laura Camargo • 9 August 2024

As a middleware platform Simpl is an intermediate layer that facilitates the exchange of data across multiple data spaces, data providers and users. By using Simpl components, organisations will be able to share and access peer data, while keeping the data under the control of its original owners.

And Simpl goes one step further. For the first time, a complete set of open components will be made available for free, supporting data initiatives in the set-up of new spaces, and allowing ongoing projects to select, implement, and modify specific components according to their own needs.

To facilitate the adoption of these components, the development of Simpl builds on the existing work of multiple organisations in the data space domain. This ensures that the resulting components will be compatible with many existing initiatives, and familiar to developers aiming to modify them (a list of existing standards and components used by Simpl will be published soon).

Simpl is currently under development with the goal of delivering an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) with essential functionalities that meet the basic needs of most data spaces. Once this goal has been achieved, Simpl will be released to the community for maintenance and enhancement, effectively becoming a fully open source programme.

If you are interested in shaping the future of Simpl, we invite you to explore the Requirements section where you will be able to comment on the list of functionalities that Simpl will implement. For even more detailed technical information visit the Repository, available on a self-hosted GitLab instance, where we welcome contributions.
