The Simpl-Open development roadmap is an indicative planning of the current priorities for Simpl-Open development. These priorities are the result of careful assessment of data spaces needs ensuring that the Simpl-Open development aligns with real-world challenges and opportunities. They are subject to change, depending on the input and feedback from the data sharing community, learnings from the Simpl-Live feasibility studies and other relevant developments.

The processes and functionalities related to the set up and onboarding of data space participants are related to two Business Processes (BP): The set-up of the data space governance authority (which can be explored in the requirements under BP1 and BP2) and the onboarding of data space participants (BP3A and BP3B). For the set-up of the data space governance authority the priority is to provide functionality for the schema management (and to extend the available policy definitions in the schema, as well as the definition of more elaborate contract templates, for example including SLA and licences), followed closely by the development of extensions to the ID/Trust (in particular to support the definition of customised, more elaborated and automated onboarding procedures). For the onboarding of a data space participant, the priority is to implement the process to renew and revoke credentials. The extensions implemented for the ID/Trust will also require updates and extensions for the participant onboarding, for example to support the automatic onboarding.
The functionalities related to the publication and consumption of resources in a data space are related to five Business Processes. For the publication of a resource (BP5) the priority in Q1 2025 is the integration of infrastructure deployment scripts management with the resource description publication, which would improve the user’s experience. This will be rolled out almost in parallel with the development of the resource description management. For the search of resources (BP6) new functionalities will be developed in the second half of 2025, related to the search of applications and search between data spaces. Regarding contracting between consumers and providers (BP7), Q1 2025 will extend the basic contract management functionality currently developed, providing the participants functionality to consult and follow up their contracts and developing functionality to include SLAs and licences in contracts. With respect to the consumption of infrastructure resources (BP8) Q1 will prioritise Infrastructure decommissioning and extensions for infrastructure resources provisioning to new types, configurations, and deployments, as well as multi cloud providers options. To finalise, the consumption of data resources (BP9) will be further developed starting Q2 2025 and will include support for pseudonymisation of datasets, as well as extensions for data sharing options, for example with eDelivery.
With reference to the development of functionalities related to the management and operations of a data space (BP12), Q1 will see important developments to extend the capturing and monitoring of business events, the implementation of health-checks on Simpl-Open components and the monitoring of provisioned infrastructure. Features related to IT admin (BP13) will be developed a bit later with the governance automated set-up support starting in Q2 2025. While developing the above described features, the requirements related to, amongst others, application sharing, sharing between data spaces, and consent management are being refined to start their development in the second half of 2025.
The current version of the roadmap has taken onboard the valuable insights gathered from the first Simpl Community Event that took place on 31 January 2025, and we are looking forward to receiving your feedback on it. We invite you to share how the Simpl-Open roadmap presented here compares with your expectations for Simpl-Open in 2025-2026? Also, are there any functionalities that you think are important to consider? Would you like to suggest a re-prioritisation of listed functionalities? Or perhaps there are functionalities that you would like to be explained in more detail? Please share your answers in the comments below to start the discussion.
Hello Mark,
Thank you for your useful feedback. As mentioned during the webinar, we are working on providing additional information on the roadmap to make it clearer. We will provide feedback on this page when this is ready within the next 15 working days.
