The Simpl-Open development roadmap is an indicative planning of the current priorities for Simpl-Open development. These priorities are the result of careful assessment of data spaces needs ensuring that the Simpl-Open development aligns with real-world challenges and opportunities. They are subject to change, depending on the input and feedback from the data sharing community, learnings from the Simpl-Live feasibility studies and other relevant developments.

View in large scale.

The processes and functionalities related to the set up and onboarding of data space participants are related to two Business Processes (BP): The set-up of the data space governance authority (which can be explored in the requirements under BP1 and BP2) and the onboarding of data space participants (BP3A and BP3B). For the set-up of the data space governance authority the priority is to provide functionality for the schema management (and to extend the available policy definitions in the schema, as well as the definition of more elaborate contract templates, for example including SLA and licences), followed closely by the development of extensions to the ID/Trust (in particular to support the definition of customised, more elaborated and automated onboarding procedures). For the onboarding of a data space participant, the priority is to implement the process to renew and revoke credentials. The extensions implemented for the ID/Trust will also require updates and extensions for the participant onboarding, for example to support the automatic onboarding.

The functionalities related to the publication and consumption of resources in a data space are related to five Business Processes. For the publication of a resource (BP5) the priority in Q1 2025 is the integration of infrastructure deployment scripts management with the resource description publication, which would improve the user’s experience. This will be rolled out almost in parallel with the development of the resource description management. For the search of resources (BP6) new functionalities will be developed in the second half of 2025, related to the search of applications and search between data spaces. Regarding contracting between consumers and providers (BP7), Q1 2025 will extend the basic contract management functionality currently developed, providing the participants functionality to consult and follow up their contracts and developing functionality to include SLAs and licences in contracts. With respect to the consumption of infrastructure resources (BP8) Q1 will prioritise Infrastructure decommissioning and extensions for infrastructure resources provisioning to new types, configurations, and deployments, as well as multi cloud providers options. To finalise, the consumption of data resources (BP9) will be further developed starting Q2 2025 and will include support for pseudonymisation of datasets, as well as extensions for data sharing options, for example with eDelivery.

With reference to the development of functionalities related to the management and operations of a data space (BP12), Q1 will see important developments to extend the capturing and monitoring of business events, the implementation of health-checks on Simpl-Open components and the monitoring of provisioned infrastructure. Features related to IT admin (BP13) will be developed a bit later with the governance automated set-up support starting in Q2 2025. While developing the above described features, the requirements related to, amongst others, application sharing, sharing between data spaces, and consent management are being refined to start their development in the second half of 2025.

The current version of the roadmap has taken onboard the valuable insights gathered from the first Simpl Community Event that took place on 31 January 2025, and we are looking forward to receiving your feedback on it. We invite you to share how the Simpl-Open roadmap presented here compares with your expectations for Simpl-Open in 2025-2026?  Also, are there any functionalities that you think are important to consider?  Would you like to suggest a re-prioritisation of listed functionalities? Or perhaps there are functionalities that you would like to be explained in more detail? Please share your answers in the comments below to start the discussion.

Where are the details of which functions will be provided by what date presented in a format that can be reviewed?  The different BP* links do not provide this information (or I cannot find it).

For example BP1 has many requirements, but the descriptive pages do not indicate which requirements are being met today in the MVP, vs. requirements planned to be met by date X.

Also your first image is a cut off version of the smaller image below.  It would be good also to see this timeline in greater detail, perhaps it came from a spreadsheet.

The labels in the diagram should be aligned with specific requirements so we understand which requirements will be met, to what extent and by when.

Hello Mark,

Thank you for your useful feedback. As mentioned during the webinar, we are working on providing additional information on the roadmap to make it clearer. We will provide feedback on this page when this is ready within the next 15 working days.

Dear Mark,

You raise a very important point. Clarity on the timeline and alignment between specific requirements and their implementation status especially in relation to the MVP is essential for proper follow-up and engagement. A more detailed view or a structured table/spreadsheet would indeed be helpful in understanding the scope and delivery stages of each BP. Your feedback highlights the need for transparent communication, and I hope the team can provide further clarification soon.

Best regards,
Agnes Erkiné Herperger

Roadmap is a bit complex. Software releases and versions are not visible in the roadmap, like alpha, beta, product. It is difficult to plan for exploiting the components if there is no release information. I guess the architecture has been already set and integration should be 'walk in the park'.

Hi Tuomo, this is a very appreciated feedback. We are working on adding complementary information to the roadmap to be clearer. We will be able to share information on the next release soon. Expect some more information within  the next 15 working days.

Hi Tuomo,
The second update of the Simpl-Open development roadmap has more details on the items of the roadmap that will be ready for the June release (the details on the December release will be shared next). Please check the second update, we are aware more information is potentially desired, and we welcome feedback that helps us prioritise what is more important for the community.

There was a webinar about the roadmap a few days ago. I understand it was recorded. Could you please share here a link to the recording.

Hi Heidi! Unfortunately, due to a technical issue, we will not be able to do so. However, we will publish in the next days the slides and an article summarising the discussion.

Hi, we are currently building a regional catalog of sectorial data spaces using piveau. As I see piveau catalog on your roadmap: where can I find more information. Thanks in advance!

Good day. This is planned to start in the second half of this year. We are just starting the analysis and looking at the last status with the Piveau team, hence have no more information at the moment. As soon as we have progressed with that, we will post an update on this page. We expect a 2-3 months timeframe.

Hi Till,
The discussion on the Simpl-Open roadmap on this page will be closed. However, we will be back here to let you know about any updates on Piveau. As Johannes mentioned, you can expect more detailed information on the topic of Piveau in around 2 months timeframe.

Great to see a clear and well-structured roadmap that reflects real data space challenges and community input. The focus on schema management, credential lifecycle, and infrastructure provisioning is spot-on. I’m especially interested in the upcoming functionalities around pseudonymisation and consent management — crucial for trust and compliance. Looking forward to seeing how the onboarding automation and cross-data space resource discovery evolve. Thanks for opening the floor to feedback I’d love to hear more details about the prioritisation process and how community input will continue to shape future iterations!

Thank you!
We are working on the process and tools for gathering and incorporating the community's feedback on requirements and priorities. The webinar also provided community feedback that we are incorporating. Please keep and eye on this website and our social media channels as we will publish updates regarding the roadmap in the coming weeks.
